December 2024 – update on previous post below.
We attended the Nov 30 2023 pre-design consultation meeting on the proposed greenway between Cherrywood and Cornelscourt. We expressed our overall preference that the greenway should be constructed on the far side of the stream (Old Bray Road side). This was referred to as the ‘yellow’ route.
The next step will be a Statutory Consultation to present the actual design in Q2-Q3 2024.

November 2023
The October 20, 2022 post ‘Brennanstown Residents Association Update’ on this website gave details of a meeting with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (DLRcc) on the proposed Greenway path from Cherrywood to Cornelscourt. At that time the consultation was only for the section of the Greenway up to the border of Brennanstown.
The time has now come where DLRcc wants to consult with Brennanstown Residents in regard to the ‘Brennanstown to Cornelscourt’ stretch – before any detailed plans are drawn up.
Meeting:
- A preliminary meeting will take place on Thursday 30 November 2023 at 7 pm in the Stableyard Cafe in Cabinteely Park. Attendance at this meeting is at full capacity as this is written.
- There is also an event on Friday 1st Dec 2023 in the Cabinteely Parish Community Center from 12.30 – 1.30 pm. Registration is necessary at https://bit.ly/CabinteelyGreenway. This was initially intended as a space for local businesses and community groups to provide early insights – but any residents who would like to attend are welcome. and
Before attending either meeting residents should have read details of the Plan are contained in the DLRcc community engagement document – the link to which is below

The concerns raised in October 2022 which are obviously still valid were as follows:
It appears green route may enter Brennanstown at the front of apartment block and travel along the existing fire road and meet the entrance to very busy underground car; observations outlined below:
– Considered a safety hazard.
– Considered to be unsafe for pedestrians.
– Highlighted this is play area for children & dog walkers
and a recreation area for the residents.
– Putting a cycleway along fire road is an ‘accident waiting
to happen’.
– A cycleway and pedestrian way coming down the “fire
road” will impact on the privacy and security of the
residents living in the lower level apartment blocks due
to the proximity.
– Fire road in front of the apartment blocks is for
emergency use and must be kept clear at all times,
serves as an emergency access to the apartment blocks.
– Motorists do not have visibility of fire road when exiting the underground car park.
– Privacy and security issues with the green route so close
to the apartment blocks.
Preferred route is for the greenway to enter Brennanstown on the far side of the river and travel towards Cabinteely Park in a straight line; it is considered to be a better solution as per observations listed below:
– Safer proposal / allows for crossing of the busy road at a
point / much better visibility.
– It also aligns better with the proposed route on the other
side of the road.
– Pedestrians will be able to see cars both entering and
exiting the estate.
– Perhaps an additional ramp closer to the top of the
entrance road would further slow traffic.
– This stretch of road is also better lit than that in front of
the fire road.
– It also decreases security concerns for ground floor
residents.
Request DLRcc review any route through the fire road and consider the alternate route suggested for the benefit of everyone concerned.

To this we could now add:
1. The preference of residents is still for the Greenway to be sited on the Old Bray Road side of the stream.
2. Existing trees must be kept.
3. A hedge should be planted along the Greenway to protect the privacy of ground floor residents
4. Lighting should be sufficient for the safety of all.
If residents have any other concerns which are not listed above please email brennanstownresidents@gmail.com
